In cheap fixtures, the diodes are likely to have a great deal of color variation, not much light output, and the fixture will not be dimmable. There may also be too much spacing between the diodes so the light comes out with hot and dark spots causing a scalloping effect. If the heat sinks in the fixture are cheap, the whole thing won’t last very long and will need replacement. In contrast, high end fixtures with high end diodes, can last for 50,000 hours or more, depending on the color of the LED and the quality of the heat sinks.
Cheap LED fixtures will include diodes that have a lot of color variation in them. All white LEDs actually start their lives as blue LEDs and are then coated in phosphor to make them white. After this step of the manufacturing process, high quality LEDs are sorted by the actual color. Some whites are cooler while others are warmer. This binning process takes time and adds to the cost of the product.
